Motion Should Explain, Not Distract

Motion becomes meaningful when it helps people
understand change.

I enjoy using animation because it gives a digital product rhythm and personality. But motion should never exist only to prove that an interface can move. If every element bounces, slides, or spins, the experience quickly becomes tiring.

The most useful animation answers a question. Where did this element come from? What changed after the click? Is the system still working? What should the user notice next?

Movement creates continuity

A sudden screen change can feel disconnected. A thoughtful transition helps the user understand how one state relates to another.

A card expanding into a detail page shows that both views belong to the same object. A button changing into a loading state confirms that the action was received. A panel sliding from the side reveals where it lives in the interface.

Motion connects these moments without requiring extra instructions.

Timing changes the feeling

The same animation can feel calm, playful, urgent, or mechanical depending on its speed and easing. I prefer motion that has a little softness and momentum. It should feel responsive, but not rushed.

When designing animation, I consider:

• Purpose: What information does the movement communicate?

• Timing: Is it fast enough to avoid delaying the user?

• Direction: Does the movement match the layout and navigation?

• Restraint: Would the experience be clearer without it?

• Accessibility: Can the motion be reduced when needed?

Always designing an interaction before performance

Our goal is not to make users stop and admire every transition. It is to help them move through the product naturally and occasionally give them a small moment of delight.

The best motion feels connected to the interface. It guides attention, gives feedback, and makes digital space easier to understand.
